Disaster Management Course – Orientation Programme

The event “Disaster Management Course – Orientation Programme” was organised in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation (SSSSO) and the RRC, NCC and YRC with the aim of avoiding potential losses from hazards, assuring prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disaster and achieving rapid and effective recovery.

Dr. M. Sudhadevi, Assistant Professor of English, welcomed the gathering. During his felicitation address, Dr. P. Rajaguru, Principal, highlighted the job opportunities available in both government and private disaster management organisations, such as drought management, fire departments and industries in high-risk areas like mining, petroleum and chemicals.

The resource person, Dr. A. Thangamani, Head of the Department of Zoology (Retd), Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, illustrated that disaster management occupies an important place in our country’s policy framework as it is the poor and the under-privileged who are the worst affected by disasters. Disasters retard socio-economic development, further impoverish the impoverished and lead to the diversion of scarce resources from development to rehabilitation and reconstruction.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. P. Sridevi, Assistant Professor of Tamil, who expressed gratitude to the Principal of the institution, the resource person and the participants.
