On 26 July 2024, Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College solemnly commemorated Silver Jubilee Kargil Vijay Diwas. This significant day honours the valiant soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives during the Kargil War in 1999.
The ceremony began with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, instilling a sense of cultural pride and reverence. The welcome address was delivered by Lt Dr B. Ajantha, who emphasised the importance of remembering our heroes and setting a respectful tone for the event.
Dr P. Rajaguru, the Principal, delivered the presidential address, wherein he highlighted the bravery and sacrifices of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. He underscored the need for such commemorations to remind the younger generation of the price of freedom and sovereignty.
Lt Dr G. Pandiarajan then introduced the chief guests, all distinguished veterans of the Indian Army. The ceremony honoured: Mr. G. Perumal Samy, Sub Maj (Retd), Mr. N. Bala Murugan, Havildar (Retd), Mr. B. Subburaj, Havildar (Retd) and Mr. K. Chandrasekar, Havildar (Retd). These honoured guests, who have dedicated their lives to the service of the nation, were felicitated for their invaluable contributions. They shared valuable service rendered at the Armed Forces with the students.
The NCC cadets of the college presented a series of cultural activities, including mime and pyramid formations, which paid homage to the bravery of the soldiers. Their performances reflected the spirit of patriotism and respect for the armed forces, engaging the audience and instilling a sense of national pride.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr B. Ravichandran, who expressed gratitude to the chief guests, faculty members, students and all attendees for their participation and support in making the commemoration a memorable event. The ceremony ended with the national anthem, uniting everyone in a collective expression of patriotism.
This commemoration not only honoured the sacrifices of the brave soldiers but also reinforced the college’s commitment to fostering a sense of national pride and gratitude among its students and the broader community.
