The Department of Physics organized an Association programme on the topic “Physics and Intellectual Property Rights” for the undergraduate and postgraduate students of physics at the New Seminar Hall on 26.12.2024 at 11.00 A.M. Dr. V. Anbarasu, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Physics, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore was the resource person.

The programme started with an invocation song by Ms. G. Shakthi and Ms. R. Pramothini of II M. Sc Physics, looking for the blessings of the Almighty. Ms. S. Vasanthapriya, of I M. Sc Physics delivered the welcome address.
Presidential address by Dr. P. Sundara Venkatesh
Dr. P. Sundara Venkatesh, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Physics presided over the programme. He gave a brief introduction about intellectual property rights. The guest was introduced to the audience by Dr. K. P. Ganesan, Assistant Professor of Physics.

Dr. V. Anbarasu, the invited guest speaker, began his session on the topic “Physics and Intellectual Property Rights“. He highlighted that physics is fundamental to understanding the natural world and plays a crucial role in the development of new technologies. He explained that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are legal rights granted to individuals or organizations to protect the creations of their minds. These rights ensure that inventors and creators can control the use of their works and prevent unauthorized usage or reproduction. Within the context of physics, IPR encompasses patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. Dr. Anbarasu elaborated on how these rights apply to physics-based innovations, providing detailed explanations and examples.
