Remembering 11/9: Mahakavi Day and September 11 Attacks

The Department of History, Sri S.Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, observed Mahakavi Bharathi’s death anniversary and remembered the 9/11 Twin Tower Attacks on September 11, 2024.

The program began with a tribute to Mahakavi Bharathi, a renowned Tamil poet and freedom fighter, on his death anniversary. Faculty and students recalled his contributions to Indian independence and his literary legacy.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Nagaraj and Dr. R. Ramanujam.

Dr. S. Nagaraj delivered a detailed lecture on “The 9/11 Twin Tower Attack and Global Terrorism: Causes, Consequences, and Implications”. He provided a comprehensive analysis of the events leading up to the attack, the aftermath, and the global response. He also discussed the evolution of terrorism, its various forms, and the need for international cooperation to combat this menace. 

Dr. R. Ramanujam followed with a lecture on “Mahakavi Bharathi: His Life, Works, and Legacy.” He delved into Bharathi’s early life, his literary career, and his involvement in the Indian freedom struggle. Dr. Ramanujam highlighted Bharathi’s poetic contributions, his advocacy for social reform, and his vision for a unified India.

Both the speakers reflected the significance of global peace and unity. Their insightful talks sparked a lively discussion among the students.
