Free Eye Cataract Screening Camp

On September 8, 2024, a significant community health initiative was successfully carried out by the NSS and NCC units of Sri SRNM College in collaboration with Kovilpatti Aravind Eye Hospital and the residents of K. Madathupatti. The camp was held at the Panchayat Union School in K. Madathupatti, with the primary goal of providing free cataract screening to local residents. This effort aimed to address the prevalent issue of cataracts in the community and offer timely intervention to those in need. The NSS Programme Officers and the NCC Associate Officers meticulously arranged this camp with the guidance of the Principal Dr P. Rajaguru.

The camp commenced early in the morning with the registration of beneficiaries. From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, attendees were welcomed by the organizers, including representatives from Sri SRNM College, Kovilpatti Aravind Eye Hospital, and local community leaders. The registration process was smooth, and participants were guided to the screening area. The warm welcome set a positive tone for the day and ensured that everyone felt comfortable and valued.

The cataract screening began promptly at 9:00 AM and continued until 2 PM. During this period, medical professionals from Kovilpatti Aravind Eye Hospital conducted thorough eye examinations on the attendees. The screening included visual acuity tests, intraocular pressure measurements, and detailed assessments to detect the presence of cataracts. The team worked efficiently to ensure that each participant received a comprehensive evaluation, which was crucial for identifying those who required further treatment.

Following the screening, a review and consultation session was held. During this time, beneficiaries were given feedback on their eye health. Individuals who were found to have cataracts or other eye conditions were provided with detailed information on the next steps, including referrals to Kovilpatti Aravind Eye Hospital for further treatment. This session was instrumental in ensuring that those in need of advanced care received the necessary guidance and support.

The camp concluded with a closing ceremony at 2 PM. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and medical staff for their contributions. The event was a resounding success, with positive feedback from the community regarding the quality of care and the overall organization of the camp. The collaboration between Sri SRNM College, Kovilpatti Aravind Eye Hospital, and the local community highlighted the effectiveness of combined efforts in addressing health issues.

The Free Eye Cataract Screening Camp was a valuable initiative that significantly impacted the health and well-being of the K. Madathupatti community, nearly around 100 people were benefitted from this camp.
