Workshop on ‘Popularization of Science’ for School Students

Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, the Department of Chemistry successfully organized a workshop on “Popularization of Science for School Students” for Kammavar Girls Higher Secondary  School and  Sun India Public School, Sattur on 23rd  July, 2024. The event was designed to ignite curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of scientific concepts among the school students.

The workshop commenced with warm welcome address by the Head of the Department, Dr. P. Sarojini, Sri S.Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College. She highlighted the importance of Science in daily life and encouraged students to explore the various dimensions of scientific studies and research.

     Dr. C. Shanmugam, Managing Trustee, Centre for Science Promotion and Research, Chennai the esteemed resource person for the event, delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the role of science and Technology in modern education and career opportunities. His insights were particularly motivating for the students, sparking an interest in pursuing science as a field of study and profession.

The workshop included a series of interactive sessions and demonstrations of various Science experiments like redox reaction, elephant toothpaste, thermometric experiment etc., conducted by the resource person. These activities were tailored to explain complex scientific phenomena in an engaging and comprehensible manner. Students actively participated in experiments and hands-on activities, which facilitated a practical understanding of theoretical concepts.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. K. Buvaneswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. Students feedback reflects a balance of positive experiences, constructive suggestions, specific highlights and ideas for enhancing future workshops on popularizing science.
