GRAND ZOOLOGY ALUMNI MEET OF 1988-1991 BATCH

The “Grand Zoology Alumni Meet” was celebrated in a magnificent way by the 1988-1991 batch students of the Department of Zoology at Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur on October 6, 2024. It marked a delightful reunion after 33 years on the college campus.

The former students reached the college campus early in the morning, filled with curiosity and a sense of tranquility. They welcomed their professors at the gate and expressed their sincere gratitude, and reminisced their memories. The band’s performance added to the joyous welcome for the guests. The alumni, accompanied by their professors, toured the Zoology Department, where they were warmly welcomed by the present faculty members and the present students of I, II and III year of the department.

The event commenced with a prayer at the temple in the college campus, where the 1988- 91 batch students paid tribute to their professors by presenting them with diadems in recognition of their esteemed work. Following this, Dr. P. Rajaguru, the Principal, adorned the statue of Swami Vivekananda with a garland. Subsequently, the retired faculty members Prof. K. Gurusamy (former Principal), Prof. M. Puspharaj, Prof. K. Gopalsamy, Dr. R. Radhakrishnan (former Principal), Dr. R. Seenivasan and the present Principal Dr. P. Rajaguru along with present staff members and students garlanded the statue of our college founder Mr. S. Ramasamy Naidu.

The Alumni Meet function formally commenced in the Mini auditorium with an inovocation of the current students. Mr. R. Venkateswarn delivered a Welcome Address, setting a warm tone for the event. The Alumni honoured our college Principal, Dr. P. Rajaguru, as well as the current professors and lab assistants with gift hampers and shawls. In return, the professors honored the alumni with mementos and gifts as a gesture of appreciation. Following this, Principal Dr. P. Rajaguru delivered the Presidential Address, reminiscing about his college days and sharing valuable insights with the students. In his address, he highlighted the commitment and unending support of the former Zoology
Department professors who served as a major source of motivation for the students. They are the stalwarts of our college who brought the glory to the Department of Zoology, he said. He also commended the alumni for their exceptional effort in gathering everyone for this grand occasion and their spirit of gratitude.

The following 20 students of 1988-1991 batch made a brief self introduction: Mr. Baskar, Mr. Dhilipkumar, Mr. Jayavelan, Mr. Kannan, Mr. Krishnamoorthy, Mr. Kumaravel, Mr. Lingam, Mr. Manivanan, Mr. Mariappan, Mr. Muthukrishnan, Mr. Muthuvel, Mr. Rajkumar, Mr. Ramasamy, Mr. Seenivasan, Mr. Sivakumar, Mr. Thamodharan, Mr. Thirupathi, Mr. Venkateshwaran and Mr. Vijayakumar.

The current students of I, II and III year were greatly impacted and impressed by the alumni’s self-introduction. Their encouraging words inspired the students to bring gratitude to their college. They urged the students to extend the Zoology Department’s alumni association in the days ahead. They also expressed their appreciation to their teachers and Professors, who had played a significant part in influencing their lives.

The retired professors’ speech is the main focus of the event. Prof. K. Gurusamy, the former Principal and HoD, thanked his students for working so hard to bring this meet to fruition after 33 years. He expressed his amazement at his students’ outstanding accomplishments. He said that the alumni organisation would help to foster positive relationships between the students and the college. He expressed his hopes to the current department’s blossoming blossoms.

Mr. M. Pushparaj, former Professor in the Zoology Department, recalled his time at the college. He recalled the times spent with his students and colleagues. Interestingly, he mentioned that the student’s community brought cheers and happiness during his tenure of service. He congratulated his students who had placed in good jobs.

Dr. R. Radhakrishnan, the former Principal and Head of the Zoology Department, expressed his joy at the department’s impressive launch of its alumni organisation. “Teaching is the only profession that brings about a holy satisfaction to an individual,” despite the fact that many vocations bring renown and recognition to a person, he added. He gave the current students an overview of the different options in the subject of Zoology and encouraged them to pursue their interests further.

Dr. R. Seenivasan, former Professor in the Zoology Department, discussed the alumni’s commendable effort in planning the event. He described the meeting as a departmental growth. He expressed gratitude to the older teachers who played a crucial role in creating this wholesome community. After that, the crowd erupted in cheers as former Botany Professor Prof. K. Gopalsamy delivered a thoughtful speech. With fond thoughts and remembrance, he related several anecdotes about his students. He suggested that the notable motivation for present students would come from the accomplishments of former graduates in various fields. He congratulated everyone who made this occasion a very grant success.

As a productive follow-up to this event, the 1988-1991 alumni batch gave the Principal, Dr. P. Rajaguru, a cheque for Rs. 2,00,000 (Rupees Two lakhs) to be used as an endowment fund for the academic beneficiary of Department of Zoology, Sri S.Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur.

After lunch break, the currently pursuing students performed a variety of cultural events. The 1988-1991 alumni batch Mr. Tirupathi entertained their classmates and the current students with a variety of entertaining games. The audience cheered as a result. Dr. P. Rajaguru, the Principal, gave out prizes to the participants of games and cultural events. Finally, vote of thanks was rendered by the Alumni Mr. Vijayakumar. The Grand Zoology Alumi Meet 2024 was coordinated by the Alumni Mr. Thirupathi and locally organized by the current faculty members, Dr. B. Ravichandran (Head in-charge), Dr. P. Kaliraj, Dr. G. Pandiarajan, Dr. H. Raghuram and with the logical support of the lab assistants Mr. R. Alagarraj and Mr. Ramachandran.

The Grand Zoology Alumni Meet 2024 was also attended by 1979-1982 batch (first batch) student Mr. Venkata Ramanujam, Former Headmaster of A.V. Higher Secondary School, Sattur and the former Lab assistants Mr. Jayaprakash, Mr. Chokkalingam and Mr. Srinivasan. They all brought laurels to the occasion by their presence.
