On 28.08.2024 the Postgraduate and Research Department of Chemistry at Sri S.Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur  in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Virudhunagar  successfully organized an impactful awareness programme aimed at empowering Higher Secondary School Girl students. The primary objectives were to enlighten students about the opportunities in higher education, elucidate women’s rights, and inform them about various women’s welfare schemes available to them. This initiative was held at Kamma Mahajana Trust Girls Higher Secondary School, Venkatachalapuram and Government Higher Secondary School, O-Mettupatti, with the goal of empowering young women with the necessary information and resources to pursue higher education and benefit from various welfare schemes.

Objectives of the Programme

To guide students on how to access and benefit from these schemes.

To provide insights into various higher education opportunities available at both national and international levels.

To discuss the importance of higher education in personal and professional development.

To educate students about fundamental women’s rights and gender equality issues.

To highlight the legal protections and resources available for women.

To introduce students to government and non-government welfare schemes designed for women.

The program commenced with an opening ceremony where dignitaries from SRI SRNM College and the Social Welfare Department addressed the students. They emphasized the importance of the topics covered and encouraged active participation. A series of lectures were conducted by academic experts who discussed various fields of study, scholarship opportunities, and career prospects. Legal experts and activists spoke about women’s rights, including domestic violence laws, workplace harassment protections, and gender equality. Representatives from the Social Welfare Department presented detailed information on schemes such as scholarships, health programs, and entrepreneurship support for women.

Q&A sessions allowed students to engage directly with the speakers, ask questions, and clarify doubts regarding higher education, women’s rights, and welfare schemes.

The program significantly enhanced students’ understanding of higher education options and career paths. Students gained practical knowledge about their rights and legal avenues available for support. Participants learned about various welfare schemes and how to leverage them for personal and academic growth.

Teachers and school administrators also noted the program’s effectiveness in addressing critical issues pertinent to the students’ development.

The chemistry quiz was a successful event, achieving its objectives of engaging students and assessing their knowledge. The prize distribution ceremony added an element of excitement and recognition, motivating students to excel in their studies.
