Sri SRNM College, Sattur, marked the 78th Independence Day with a grand celebration that resonated with patriotic enthusiasm and a strong sense of national pride. The event, held on 15 August 2024, was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr T.R. Kannan, Chairman of Sri Jayajothi & Company and President of Sri SRNM College, who served as the Chief Guest.
The proceedings began at 09:30 AM with the arrival of the dignitaries, including members of the college management, Dr P. Rajaguru, the Principal and other distinguished guests such as former Principals and Professors of the institution. The college premises atmosphere was charged with the spirit of independence.

Mr T.R. Kannan, the Chief Guest, was welcomed with a warm reception by the college community. He proceeded to hoist the national flag, an act that was met with a resounding chorus of the National Anthem, sung by all present. The sight of the tricolour fluttering in the morning breeze instilled a deep sense of patriotism among the attendees. Following the flag hoisting, Mr Kannan delivered an inspiring Independence Day address.
In his speech, Mr Kannan reflected on the significance of Independence Day and the sacrifices made by freedom fighters to secure the nation’s liberty. He urged the students to take inspiration from the past and work towards building a progressive and inclusive India. He also highlighted the role of education in nation-building and encouraged the students of Sri SRNM College to strive for excellence in their academic and personal lives.


The event saw active participation from various segments of the college community. The management members, faculty, non-teaching staff and students attended the event in large numbers, each contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the celebration. Their collective presence symbolised the unity and solidarity of the college community.
A key highlight of the event was the Guard of Honour, performed by the cadets of the college’s NCC units (SD & SW). Dressed in crisp uniforms, the cadets executed the Guard of Honour with precision, reflecting their discipline and dedication. This was followed by a meticulously organised parade, which was led by the NCC cadets and included the participation of students enrolled in the college’s Part V courses. The parade showcased the students’ coordination, teamwork and respect for the nation’s independence.


The parade was well-received by the audience and it served as a powerful reminder of the importance of discipline and unity in the pursuit of national goals. The cadets and students were commended for their efforts and were seen as exemplars of the values that Sri SRNM College seeks to instil in its students.
