Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, organised an enriching extension activity titled “Head or Heart – A Session on Emotional Intelligence” on 23 June 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the College Auditorium. The session was organised by the Extension Activities Cell, in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), with the aim of sensitising students—particularly those in the first year—on the relevance and application of emotional intelligence in academic and social life.

The event commenced with a warm Welcome Address by Lt. Dr. B. Ajantha, Dean of Extension Activities, who articulated the purpose of the session and underlined the need for students to develop emotional awareness alongside intellectual growth. She set the tone by highlighting the transformative power of emotional intelligence in shaping student behaviour, relationships, and resilience.
The Presidential Address was delivered by the Principal, Dr. K. Krishnaveni, who stressed the importance of striking a balance between the head and the heart in everyday decision-making. She reiterated the institution’s commitment to holistic education and its role in nurturing emotionally intelligent individuals capable of handling both academic pressure and personal challenges with maturity.

This was followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest by Dr. S. Nithya, NSS Programme Officer, who detailed the notable contributions of Mr. S. Nagalingam, IRS (Retd.), Founder and Head Coach of the Nikhil Foundation. With a distinguished background in public service and youth training, Mr. Nagalingam was welcomed as the ideal speaker for a session centred on emotional insight and social responsibility.
In his Chief Guest Address, Mr. Nagalingam delivered an insightful and engaging talk that revolved around the theme “Head or Heart.” Drawing from real-life experiences and psychological perspectives, he explained the critical role of emotional intelligence in enhancing decision-making, managing relationships, and fostering a sense of inner balance. He encouraged students to be more self-aware, empathetic, and thoughtful in their interactions, emphasising that intelligence alone is insufficient without emotional maturity.

The session concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. S. Abirami, NSS Programme Officer, who extended her gratitude to the management, faculty, student participants, and the Chief Guest for their involvement and contributions in making the session a success. The programme ended with the rendering of the National Anthem, instilling a sense of unity and reflection among the attendees.
The event was well received by the students, particularly the first-year cohort, who expressed great enthusiasm and engagement throughout the session. It served as an impactful initiative to enhance students’ self-awareness and social intelligence, aligning with the college’s mission to provide not just academic excellence but also emotional and ethical growth.
