The Department of History, Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur celebrated World Tourism Day 2024 with enthusiasm, focusing on the theme “Tourism and Peace.” The celebrations took place over two days, culminating in a series of engaging activities designed to promote awareness about the significance of tourism in fostering global peace and understanding.

On September 26, 2024, the department organized several competitions, including essay writing, a quiz, and short film contests, which encouraged students to explore the relationship between tourism and peace. These activities saw enthusiastic participation from students, showcasing their creativity and critical thinking.

Dr. R. Revathi, Assistant Professor of History delivered the welcome address, setting a positive tone for the event and highlighting the importance of tourism in today’s interconnected world.

Dr. S. Brinda Uma Maheswari, Associate Professor and Head, Department of History introduced Dr. R. Antony Paul Gnanasekar, providing context about his expertise and contributions to the field.

The main event on 27 September, 2024 featured a distinguished lecture by Dr. R. ANTONY PAUL GNANASEKAR, Associate Professor & Head (Retd.), Department of History, Arul Anandar College, Karumathur who was invited as the resource person. His insightful talk emphasized the role of tourism in bridging cultural divides and promoting international harmony.

Following the lecture, Dr. S. Nagaraj, Assistant Professor of History proposed a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, participants, and organizers for making the event a success.

The celebration concluded with the felicitation of the winners of the competitions, who were honoured by the guest, recognizing their efforts and contributions to the theme of the day.

Dr. S. Sundaravel and Mr. S. Arunkumar, Assistant Professors of History made all the arrangements for the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
