International Tiger Day

Department of Zoology and Nature Club of SRNMC organized DBT Star College Scheme Sponsored Popular Lecture in commemoration of International Tiger Day on 29.07.2024. Dr. P. Rajaguru, Principal, SRNMC inaugurated the lecture program and gave the presidential address.  Mr. H. Byju, Researcher, Centre for Advanced Studies in Marine Science, Annamalai University delivered the lecture on the topic “Stripes of Hope: Protecting India’s Tiger’. Mr. Byju addressed the trends in tiger population in the past and present in India. He reported that more than 75% of worlds’ tiger population is available in India.  He highlighted the major achievements of Project Tiger in which the tiger population increased from 1, 411 in the year 2006 to 3, 167 in the year 2023.  He further gave information about the job opportunities in forest departments, wildlife sanctuaries and biosphere reserves. The students got awareness about the importance of tiger and its conservation. 122 students from B.Sc. Zoology and 43 students from M.Com. participated and benefitted from this popular lecture.
