As part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, the fourth cleaning activity was carried out on 27 September 2024 at Mettupatti Anganwadi School. This initiative followed the successful cleaning drives at the local government hospital and a nearby temple.

NSS Programme Officers Dr Bhuvaneshwari and YRC Coordinator Dr Krishnaveni led the effort, accompanied by a group of committed NSS volunteer students. The purpose of this cleaning activity was to ensure the Anganwadi, which caters to young children, maintains a safe, clean, and healthy environment.

The day’s work began with volunteers organising the tools and equipment necessary for cleaning. Tasks included sweeping the school grounds, removing litter and waste, cleaning classroom spaces, and ensuring the sanitation of the playground area. Attention was given to eliminating potential health hazards, with a focus on creating a more conducive learning environment for the children.

This fourth phase of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” activities underlined the programme’s commitment to improving public spaces and institutions. The work done at the Anganwadi was part of a broader effort to instil the importance of cleanliness in both volunteers and the community.

By taking part in this drive, NSS volunteers continued to engage with the ethos of the Swachh Bharat Mission, working towards a cleaner, healthier India. The school staff and local community expressed their gratitude, recognising the long-term benefits of maintaining hygiene standards, especially in places frequented by children.
