Nature Club of Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, Virudhunagar District Administration organized second Training Camp titled “Young Green Enthusiastic Programme” along with ATREE and ROAR voluntary organizations for the “Young Green Activists” which is being implemented with the aim of creating awareness about green propagation and green protection, was held on Sunday (15.09.2024) at Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, from 07.00 am to 05.00 pm.

The function was presided over by District Education Officer for Matriculation Schools (DEO) Mr. Subbaraj. The teacher of Chippiparai Government Higher Secondary School Mr. C. Saravanan welcomed the young students from various Schools in and around Sattur, who came here with interest in nature. District Deputy Collector Ms. Anitha inaugurated the function and spoke to the students about the purpose of the “Young Green Activists” Training Camp.

Sri S.R.N.M. College Zoology Department Head (i/c) & Nature Club Coordinator Dr. B. Ravichandran spoke about the need to preserve nature. Mr. Singeswaran, Alumni student of Sri S.R.N.M. College & Zoology teacher of Mamsapuram -Pasumpon Devar High School spoke about the importance of biodiversity to create a proper understanding of nature among the students at the camp. Dr. H. Raghuram, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, also presented the threat to biodiversity and destruction caused by human activities. Then, identification of the trees, estimation of their ages through the details of their height and width were explained by the teacher of Chippiparai Government High School, Mr. C. Saravanan. After that the Nature Club Coordinator, Dr. B. Ravichandran gave a clear explanation about birds, butterflies, benefits of small organisms, benefits of earthworms, Vermiculture, necessity of rainwater harvesting, environmental pollution.

An activist of ROAR organization from Rajapalayam Mr. Vivek Vellathurai explained the names of the birds, animals and trees that the students see and how to identify them. He clearly told about the relevant websites and how to get information for this on those websites.

After that the camp drew to its final stage with South Side Matriculation School, female students, Kammavar High School students, and Chatur S.H.N.E. High School students giving their feedback.

Mr. Saravanan, National Green Force Co-ordinator of Chippiparai Government Higher Secondary School requested to plant two saplings in the college campus to commemorate the successful completion of the “Young Green Activists Camp”. He gave two saplings, Zoology department professors of the college Dr. B. Ravichandran, Dr. H. Dr. Raghuram Dr. P. Kaliraj, Mr. Vivek Velladurai from ROAR organization, Mr. Sengeswaran, teacher also planted.
