On 31st July 2024, the Citizen Consumer Club of Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College organised an impactful workshop on Food Adulteration. This initiative was part of the college’s extension activities aimed at educating students on pertinent issues that affect everyday life. The workshop was held in the Old Seminar Hall from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM and attracted many participants eager to learn about the pressing issue of food adulteration.

Dr P. Sarojini, Assistant Professor and the Head of the Department of Chemistry at Sri SRNMC, Sattur, led the session. With her vast knowledge and experience in the field, Dr Sarojini provided an in-depth exploration of food adulteration, covering the various types of adulterants commonly found in food products. She explained how these adulterants not only compromise the quality of food but also pose severe health risks to consumers. Her lecture was both informative and engaging, as she used real-life examples to illustrate the dangers of food adulteration.
The program was meticulously coordinated by Dr R. Revathi, who ensured that the event ran smoothly and efficiently. The dedicated members of the Citizen Consumer Club, Mrs R. Yogalakshmi and Mr M. Kaleeswaran, played an instrumental role in organising the workshop and facilitating the various activities. Their efforts were crucial in creating an environment conducive to learning and discussion.

The workshop also provided a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions about the broader implications of food adulteration. Participants were encouraged to share their thoughts and experiences, which led to a lively exchange of ideas. This interactive component of the workshop not only enhanced the learning experience but also fostered a sense of community among the participants. The workshop on Food Adulteration was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended. It highlighted the importance of consumer awareness and education in combating the pervasive issue of food adulteration. By empowering students with the knowledge and tools to identify adulterated food products, the Citizen Consumer Club has made a significant contribution to public health and safety.
